GPU stress test on a phone

Use the website, not a random APK

You can stress a phone GPU in Chrome or Safari. You do not need a random APK named after Volume Shader. Optional official apps exist in the stores. For the longer method, see GPU stress test.

WebGL 1.0 is the floor so older Androids still start. Safari on iPhone works the same way. The SoC still hits thermal and power limits fast. That is the test.

How to run it

Start Volume Shader on Standard. If that is easy, move to Extreme for one to two minutes. Or run the 3D test at High or Ultra with a one to two minute timer. Watch whether FPS falls as the chassis warms. Prep first with how to test a GPU.

• Turn off battery saver
• Do not start Extreme on an already hot phone
• Stop if the OS thermal warning appears
• Close the tab to end the load immediately

What a drop in FPS means

A sustained drop is usually thermal or power throttling. That is a successful stress test, not proof the SoC is fake. Mid range phones often sit under 30 FPS on Extreme. Flagship phones hold higher, then still fall after a minute in a case that traps heat.

When to stop

Stop if the phone is painful to hold, the screen stutters hard, or the OS warns you. The test does not change clocks or flash firmware. Heat drops once the GPU idles.
